The DWC announced the next QME competency examination window: the computer-based exam runs in person October 3–9, 2026, and completed applications must be postmarked by August 19, 2026. Application packets are on the DWC site or from the Medical Unit; testing locations arrive in registration notices from the exam vendor.
The registration fee is nonrefundable and does not carry to future exams; incomplete applications are returned. And a caution the DWC itself flags: completed QME applications are public records — names and contact details may be disclosed, so applicants are encouraged to use business addresses throughout.
QMEs are the system’s neutral examiners — every disputed rating funnels through one. The exam is the entry gate; what the job actually involves downstream: the exam from the worker’s side · how panels assign cases · the report that becomes the rating.
